Abstract

This study is part of a larger study on the factors affecting the cost of dynamic architecture during three phases (design, execution and operation), A research paper on the design phase has been published. and we will specialize in this research by studying the execution phase.

This research study is based on identifying the main factors affecting the cost of dynamic, buildings by conducting a questionnaire and analyzing it statistically by using IBM SPSS Statistics 25. To get to the definition of dynamic architecture and Types of movement directions in dynamic buildings.

By studying each of the principles of movement (Time - Physics and balance- Speed and acceleration- Form and serial repetition- Mass and weight- Complexity and Scale- Mystery and interaction), Actual movement patterns in architecture (Movable structure- Movable connections- Actuators- Materials - Control systems), dynamic movement in the buildings By considering the time as a fourth spatial dimension in the design process, Design criteria for dynamic architecture (functional considerations- environmental considerations- aesthetic considerations- design of moving part- structural structure and materials- energy efficiency).

Then we will study construction cost determinants in the execution phase of kinetic buildings, this part will cover the kinetic systems selection (Operable- Adaptive- Foldable- Deployable- Cable Membrane- Pneumatic- Tensegrity- Retractable- Elasticity- Transportable), the selection of responsive and interactive materials for dynamic buildings for dynamic projects, the selection of materials exhibiting self-assembly and programmable properties (very complex structures- Pneumatic Façade- Shape shifting robot- iconic- Tetrahedral BSU units- Dynamic Terrain).

After statistical analysis of the questionnaire, the following results were reached:

Highest value of the mean has been Recorded by the kinetic system selection (mean = 4.0886).

The mean values of responses to the questions of Cost impact of the execution phase converge between 4.038 and 3.7342. This means that they are very close together and all have a big impact on the cost. This means that each of the following factors has a great impact on the cost in dynamic buildings in execution phase: {the selection of kinetic systems selection, the selection of responsive and reactive materials for dynamic buildings, and the building, selection of materials exhibiting self-assembly and programmable}.
