History of the Publisher
The Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) was established in 1954 to serve as a leading authority in the sectors of building, housing, and urban development. As an independent government research center affiliated with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, HBRC fulfills its mandate by organizing and issuing national codes of practice and overseeing the implementation of building and construction standards across Egypt and the region.
Journal Evolution and Service Partnerships
The HBRC Journal was launched in December 2004 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Center, initially featuring innovations from the 2004 Golden Conference. Following its inaugural phase, the journal increased its publication frequency to three issues annually in 2007 to meet growing academic demand.
To ensure the highest standards of global dissemination and editorial excellence, HBRC has utilized various international publishing platforms and services. From 2010 to 2015, HBRC collaborated with Elsevier for digital distribution, followed by a service contract with EVISE (via the Academy of Scientific Research) from 2016 to 2018. Since January 2019, HBRC has engaged the services of Taylor & Francis. Reflecting its commitment to scholarly impact, the HBRC Journal has been listed in Scopus since 2022.
Beginning in June 2025, the HBRC Journal is produced by Digital Commons hosted by the Elsevier platform. This strategic move allows HBRC to utilize advanced publishing systems to further the journal's development while maintaining its independence as the official publisher.
